Memory Eaters

I haven't created a post since August! Anyway since it's going to be a very long break I'm back!

Summary: Memory eaters live on people's memories. They are originally death messengers who remove a human's memories when they carry souls. But some of them are charmed by the beauty of the memories and become Exiles: Memory Eaters. Dio is one of them, but instead of stealing human memories like other Exiles, he earns them by helping people. One day, Dio finds a girl who is losing too many memories from Exiles. He tries to help her, but Ces, who was a model death messenger, is around her. What is he doing here?

I loved the concept of the manhwa by Kang Kyun Nam. The idea of these death gods that eat peoples memory after they died and some could actually get addicted to them was very inspiring. The beauty of it has been in my mind for a very long time. Unfortunately the series was just way too short. The ending was a bit rushed and forced which left me disappointed. I wish I could've seen more of Dio taking peoples memory for profit. It's just asking for a sequel.

Are You Alice?

There has only been two chapters that have been scanned. There isn't much information I can give you. In this story, "Alice" is a boy. He gets attack by shadows in wonderland called "regrets". Pretty much all the inhabitants in wonderland are men, including the queen. And Alice has to kill the white rabbit. Yeah that's all I got from those chapters.
The art is very different from what I'm use too. A lot of ink works rather than tones. The characters and scenes are well done.

The Flower Of Evil

Volumes: 8 complete

Joohna is an arrogant teenager who puts down women and hopes to become a big womanizer when he gets older. His aspirations are ruined when his body transforms into a girl. He has to leave his old life including his best friend Jinhoon and his first love Heewon.
The story gets very serious after Joohna's transformation. Heewon begins to stalk her and starts acting up when she finds out that Joohna is really a girl. As a reader your meant not to root for this couple.
Jinhoo, Joohna's childhood bestfriend is a famous pianist who already has a girlfriend but has strong feelings for Joohna that he can't explain. He has never felt this way before even towards his girlfriend.
Taehyn is a busy savy playboy who is interested in girl Joohna after he gets knocked out by her in one blow.

The plot is very interesting. I'm not a big fan of the paneling in the manhwa, it doesn't capture what the author intends sometimes. It was really good in the first chapter but then it seemed like Lee Youngran got lazy.
A lot of people complain about the ending but I am personally happy who Joohna ends up with. I just wish she didn't tell Jinhoo to stay with his girlfriend, he doesn't love her and he's only going to be with her because his true love made him promise to stick with her. I know it just wouldn't work out.

Nonchan To Watashi

Volumes: Oneshot

Rise and Takumi have known each other since they were little kids. Even though they still see each other, they aren't as close as they use to be. They got into a conflict about Takumi's glasses and Rise still regrets not apologizing to him about it. Takumi since has changed into a big campus playboy.

Rise gets kinda pathetic with the whole "I don't belong in his life!", are you serious? It's just a pair of glasses. Even after Takumi kisses her she still acts whiny. I don't know, I guess people are just obsessed with drama. I can't totally blame her. I have my own over dramatic moments in my life.

It's about Rise admitting learning how to admit your feelings.
I didn't like it as much as I thought I would but it isn't a bad oneshot.

Wagahai Wa Yome de Aru

Volumes: 1 Complete

I was kinda confused when I read this scan. I thought this was a short series about a high school girl married to a writer but it's actually a series of oneshots. The high school girl story is one of four. The way that it was described with that one story only seemed like it was a series.

Anyway...

"I'm His Wife" Nako meets an author named Hii-kun at the bookstore, they start going out and then soon get married. It kinda bothers me that an adult would ask a high school girl to marry him. She wasn't wise beyond her years or anything like that, she was what you'd expect from a high school girl, a child. She even mentally says that she's missing out on stuff because she got married young. She gets interested in a high school classmate named Saigou-kun and goes out with him.

"Love Mates" Natsuki has been suffering from nightmares and she wants to roommate to keep her company. Turns out her roommate is a guy named Ootani. She's a little uncomfortable about this.

"Children Salad" Oda Akira is a man hoping to become a nursery school teacher. The problem is that kids are afraid of him, and he doesn't like kids very much either. There is a bright friendly high school girl who also works at the nursery. This author has something for older men/ high school girls.

"The Flower Language Of Lilac" Serina is a tomboy and class clown. She doesn't want to be identified as a girl. Nothing makes her more happy then to make others laugh. But Toyohara might get in her way by telling his own jokes.

All the stories are cute but really lack depth, which what a lot of oneshots suffer from. It's just more of oh I'm in love with this person for no reason kind of thing, except "Children Salad". I really liked the art. My favorite was the authors soft tones in "Love Mates".

Talking About...

Volumes: 3 Complete
This manhwa is about three women in their late 20's / early 30's and their love lives.

Sarah is a sexy and attractive women who plans events for people to hook up with each other. But at 29 she has a secret, she's a virgin. She looks around for the right man to lose it to.

Gang-E is a manhwa-ka who is uncomfortable with the fact that she's going out with someone much younger than her.

Amber is a successful career woman who has innocent looks, but looks can be deceiving. She has hooked up with countless of men. Men love her but she doesn't get along with women very well.

I really liked this series, there are arguments, break-ups, the characters grow and change. There is a lot of talk about sex but nothing graphic, I wouldn't even consider this series smut. The series mainly focuses on Sarah and Gang-E, Amber doesn't change much in character, but she's already "refined" to begin with. The ending is very open that foresees either good or bad futures for each character.

There is a lot of shades of blue in this and it's kinda annoying, the overuse of brushes and screen tones makes the artist seem lazy. The characters themselves look good though.

Talking About... is licensed by netcomics. If you like it support the series.

Fujoshi Kanojo

Volumes: 4 ongoing

Mutou sees a beautiful older girl girl named Ameya at a jewelry packaging shop, and he begins to work there part time to get to know her better. They eventually hook up and he confesses to her. She tells him "I'm a fujoshi, do you change your mind?" Motou doesn't know what a fujoshi is so he tells her that he doesn't care and wants to be with her. That's where the fun begins.

Fujoshi is basically a fangirl, who loves male/male homoerotic relationship (yaoi). Ameya takes an innocent shounen manga and forces Mutou to make it a BL (boys love) fanfiction. He of course hates it at first but later on he begins to really enjoy writing it.

There is a lot of fangirl vocabulary that I didn't know about.
Megane Danshi : A guy who gets hotter when he wears glasses. (Mutou)
Tuna Uke : A fish boy who is the submissive one in a male/male relationship.
I really feel for Mutou, half the time I don't know what his girlfriend is talking about.

The artist of this series is Shinba Rize who is known for yaoi manga. People who make yaoi manga make beautiful art, why is that? I love the expression of the characters, especially Ameya. The transitions are really well done too, reading this manga is like watching a show.

Koko Ni Iru Yo! Volume 1-4

volumes: 5 Complete

Sumino is a very shy girl which no one seems to notice. She lets her voice be heard anonymously over the internet via a blog. Her only friends are Black Rabbit and MegaPIG who comment on her blog. Then the two popular guys take notice of her existence and it gets a little less interesting after that.

Even though Sumino starts out weak and pathetic, she does try to break out of her shell. And she does show more strength as the series goes on.

I find it rather annoying that the two guys Hinata and Teru seem to be fighting her affection, when I don't find a good enough reason to do so. If she's "plain" why would you be going for her. It's just not explained clearly. I was rolling my eyes throughout the latest scans.

The characters are made to look cute but at times they all look the same, just with slightly different hair styles. The screen tones seem to be overdone at times. Their profile view makes their heads look narrow.

Plants Vs Zombies

Plants Vs Zombies is by popcap games. This is my first ever tower defense type game and I love it! Who knew zombies and plants make a great combination. This game is also beyond cute. When you finish the adventure part you get a Sunflower/Zombie music video. In the beginning you start at your front lawn, you have sunflowers who give you sun to plant more plants and peashooters that hit the zombies. The zombies must not make it to the front door, if they do your brains will be eaten! Even the zombies are cute! There are different types including a Micheal Jackson Thriller inspired zombie, RIP(ironic).

This game gets very addictive very fast, as the levels get higher you can choose more types of plants that do very different defense techniques. The zombies get tougher (zombies that fly, zombies that go underground, zombies that jump etc) and huge waves come more often. You can buy upgrades from your neighbor Crazy Dave to have a stronger defense.

There is so much to do in this game. Besides the basic adventure game. There is a survival mode, mini-games, and puzzles. You can grow your own zen garden to make more money to upgrade plants.

score: 5/5 I love this game!

Futari Ecchi For Ladies

Rating: Adults
Volumes: 2 Complete

Futair Ecchi for Ladies is for Katsu Aki. Futari Ecchi For Ladies is the most sexually explicit manga that I've ever read. This is the sequel to the original Futari Ecchi, known as Manga Sutra in the US but this time it's in the point of view of Mokoto's wife, Yura. Why didn't I read the first one instead? It's goes on for 41 volumes, that's too much sex for me to handle. I heard it gets really repetitive after the the third volume. I stuck with this 2 volume mini series.

You would think a manga involving a lot of graphic sex wouldn't have anything much to it, but it does. It brings up issues about infidelity, the importance of women sexually needs, talking to children about sex and so on. I loved that there were little pie charts and surveys of real Japanese women about their love/sex lives. It's very educational and eye-opening.

score: It's not completely scanlated but I'm going to give it a score anyway 4/5

Wild Damon Volume 1

rating: everyone
volumes: 3 complete

Wild Damon is by Andou Natsumi. Chino's father is a world explorer and author, he constantly gives his daughter strange presents when he returns from his adventures. This time Chino's father has given her a live boy! Hyou has been living in the wilderness all by himself with no human contact, after meeting Chino he wants to always be around her, and protect her.

I think Hyou is so adorable and very child-like. Chino has obvious feelings for Hyou right after the first chapter. The entire story is basic shoujo fluff but I love the premise of it. It's very cliche and predictable at the end of volume 1 and the beginning of volume 2. i continue to read it because I've been reading a lot of serious and more mature stories and this is a really good contrast to that.

The art style is very standard late 90's (this was published 2003). Large, narrow, horizontal eyes and pointy faces. It's not a bad thing since it was what was in at the time.

The Flower Of Evil

rating: Mature
Volumes: 7 Complete

The Flower of Evil is by Lee Hyeon-Sook. Se-Wa and Se-Joon are twins. Se-Joon is like any high school boy with friends and a social life. Se-Wa doesn't know how to be comfortable without clinging to her brother Se-Joon. They both have feelings for each other, Se-Wa expresses it more at the beginning. It is expressed with how Se-Wa sneaks into Se-Joons bed a night and how they kiss when no one is watching.

Se-Joon soon tries to avoid Se-Wa. The guilt of loving his sister is troubling him. He tries to distract himself by using his girlfriend Sun-Bae as an excuse to not be with his sister. I feel really sorry for Sun-Bae.

The first volume or so I thought this was going to play like Boku wa Imouto ni Koiwosuru Korean version. But I think it gets much disturbing than that. Se-Wa drugs Sun-Bae out of jealousy. Se-Joon later on in the series turns out to be equally if not more psychotic than Se-Wa. As you can see it's really hard to like these characters.

I really like when Gi-Hon (who claimed to be an old family friend) and Se-Wa were getting close. Se-Wa was almost acting like a normal person and her interest in the latest horror movies and forums online about horror movies showed me she had some sort of life besides Se-Joon.

i haven't read much manhwa but the I consider the art here beautiful. Their eyes are so expressive and I love the detail on the eyelashes that you don't see much in manga.

Akuma to Love Song Volume 1-2

rating: Teen
Volumes: 7 Ongoing
Devil and Her Love song is by Toumori Miyoushi. Kawai Maria has just transferred from a prestigious Catholic school to a pretty average Touzuka High School. She was expelled from her other school because of violence towards a teacher, she tells everyone as she enters the classroom. Kawai Maria is a very interesting character. She is honest and direct. Not only that, she can tell peoples intention and somehow shows them a mirror of who they really are. But she's pretty sensitive to other peoples words.

Because Maria is so blunt and honest, she is isolated by her classmates and eventually bullied by the group of mean girls. Two good looking guys, Kanda Yuusuke and Meguro Shin who are opposites of each other. One is bubbly and cute while the other one is cold. They don't really "protect" her they more like help her out to get along better with her classmates. I like Meguro better because Yuusuke wants her to change while Meguro likes Maria more as she is.

I don't know what to think about this manga. It is very popular and I can see why. The main girl is different. It's very refreshing to see someone who is tough and brutally honest. Someone who doesn't get over emotional and reacts too drastically. But still for some reason it doesn't do it for me.

Perhaps it's the translation that is bother me. I can't quite put my finger on it. I have to read the page about three times to understand what the hell Maria is saying/means. I really want to like this manga.

I'm staying tuned to see if Maria will get to sing her song, to see if Meguro/Maria will develop, Yuusuke to grow up and show his real self, Tomoyo to be a stronger person.

Gakuen Ouji

rating: mature
volumes: 6 ongoing

Gakuen Prince is by YUZUKI Jun. Mizutani has just moved to Joshi high, previously an all girl school it has recently become co-ed. But the girls still greatly outnumber the boys. It seems that the girls don't have much free time and with all the hormones, many of them target the few guys in the school for satisfaction. Munechika (I think he's going to have STD soon) likes to whore himself out there but Mizutani doesn't want any part of it. To keep girls from jumping him, Mizutani picks the nerdy and not sexually interested, Okitsu Rise as his pretend girlfriend. They are having trouble maintaining their fake relationship since the other girls have been bullying her.

Rise moves to S class but sadly she is also bullied there too. She looks like a completely different person without her glasses, sort of like a Clark Kent that makes sense.

Later on it gets disturbing, Mizutani gets drugged and molested. He gets rescued though. I'm all for girls cool with their sexuality but not when your forcing yourself on someone. The redeamable quality in this is that rape is considered a negative thing in this story. Tell that to the fangirls who think this as "hilarious".

The Bishies are drawn beautifully. The paneling is really good too, there are some scenes used like when Mizutani was running for his life, that I haven't seen used before.

I'm going to continue reading, it seems there might be something between Rise and another guy, Akamaru.

Otomen Volume 1-3

Rating: Teen
Volumes: 7 ongoing

Otomen is by KANNO Aya. On the outside Atsuka looks like a cool tough stoic guy but in the inside he's an Otomen, a straight guy who likes sewing, cooking, shoujo manga, and other girly things. He hides it from almost everyone, his mother especially since she was traumatized by her husband who ran away to get a sex change. After Asuka falls in love with the new girl(Ryou), he can't help but do girly things.

Tachibana, who can see through Atsuka's tough man mask advises him to be himself. A friendship evolves between Atsuka, Tachibana and Ryou. They all learn things from each other, get into silly situations and help each other grow.

Tachibana has a secret of his own. He's actually the famous mangaka of the shoujo story "Lovetic", and he uses Atsuka as the model of the leading lady! And what's funny is "Lovetic" is Atsuka's favorite manga, and he doesn't even realize that the story is about him.

I'm loving this story so far. I don't really see Ryou/Atsuka as a couple but their friendship is really cute. It's also refreshing to have feminine man and not so feminine girl in the story.

The art is really great too. The pencil strokes are so clean and I love the way Kanno Aya draws eyes.

I'm definatly looking forward to more chapters.

Otomen is license by Viz Media. If you like the chapters you got here you should support Kanno Aya and Viz by buying the volumes. The recent one release is Volume 4 I believe.

Ahiru No Oujisama Volume 1-3

rating: Teen
volumes: 6 complete
Ahiru no Oujisama or Duck Prince is by MORINAGA Ai. This review is for the first three volumes. Shiratori is a short helmet head who likes plants. He is always constantly being bullied by his classmates who label him as "ugly". It doesn't help that all of his family members are attractive. He meets a girl named Yumiko who shares the same interest of plants as he does. She's also attracted to Shiratori's "type" but I don't think he realizes it. After a freak car accident Shiratori wakes up from a coma looking like a gorgeous boy. Later we find out that Yumiko's dog, Mister has powers and turned Shiratori handsome. Mister's powers aren't that great so Shiratori switches from his good looking self to his ugly self from time to time.

I really enjoyed this story in the beginning but it started to get boring after awhile. Nothing is progressing between Shiratori and Yumiko (and I'm liking their characters less and less), I think in the end Shiratori will stay his "ugly" self since that's what Yumiko likes. Morinaga Ai keeps introducing characters to distract us but the only interesting one is Omae-san who is basically the girl version of Shiratori. It's sort of predictable what happens to her.

There is a part which disturbs me. Shiratori's sister rapes him. Every review you'll see are girls squealing that was cute or hot but I find that disturbing. It wasn't graphic, it was implied. I wonder if one of these girls get victimize, would she still think that part is "cute".

I'm still going to read the series hoping it will get better and hope that rape scene was just a horrible nightmare.

R-18

rating: mature
volumes: 4 Complete

R-18 is by Sugi Emiko. I just read the first volume. Riko is a regular high school girl who writes a sex advice column in a magazine. The problem is that Riko has never had "experience" before and she gets all her inspiration from watching a lot of porn. Her persona in the magazine is R-18. A boy with many odd jobs (Minato) finds out that Riko is R-18 and he uses that to bribe her. Minato also decides to help her "technique" but Riko is still thinking about it.

I thought the instant attraction between Minato and Riko was corny. Minato confession was bleh, hopefully the series will get better soon. In chapter 2 after Minato shows Rico a porn filming he tries to do it with her on the same bed the actors were. That scene wasn't sexy, that was borderline rape for me. And his "your body is MINE MINE MINE" thing was a little uncomfortable. I was happy his editor came to interrupt it before anything happened. He doesn't pull anymore rape stunts after that but it's only the first volume so...

I thought the art was average but I love Sugi Emiko's use of screen tones.

I'm still going to read more but so far the series isn't anything great.

Bokura no Ibasho

rating:everyone
volume:oneshot complete

Bokura no Ibasho is a oneshot about the early beginnings of a band called WaT from Teppei Koike's point of view. The illustrator of this manga is NAKAHARA Aya who you might know as the mangaka of the popular Lovely Complex.

Teppei just moved to Tokyo and is part of a talent agency. He is overwhelmed by his new classmates who also work in show business and seem so far ahead of him. A boy named Wentz Eiji who also works at the same talent agency become roomies and discover that they both love music. They make a rash decision to play out in the streets but sadly no one pays attention to them. They work harder at their confidence and guitar skills. At a camp they make a original song about how they felt when they were singing on the streets "Boku no Kimochi". Time flies by and they are all of a sudden well known and have a lot of fans.

Here is a youtube video of WaT performing Boku no Kimochi and you can see Teppei is crying. I guess he remembers what he went through to get to where he is now.

The art is very nice. Manga Teppei looks like real Teppei, I'm not sure about Wentz though. The backgrounds are really well done.

I would guess that you would have to be a WaT fan to really enjoy this manga. I'm not a WaT fan at all but Teppei's story really touched me.

It's Not Like That Darling

Hello everyone this is my first post.

rating: Mature
volumes: 3 complete
It's Not Like That Darling is a josei manga by Nagae Tomomi. The story revolves around a college girl named Maiko Ninomiya. After having recovered from her accident she has been having frequent erotic dreams about the same guy. One day she gets trampled by a stampede of fan girls following the new literature professor,Yukiya Nagase. Turns out he's the guy from Maiko's erotic dreams! Her heart beats fast whenever she's around this stranger. We later find out that Nagase was in a relationship with a woman named Haruka who passed away recently. She donated blood to Maiko after her accident and the theory is that Haruka's emotions are possessing Maiko's body. Maiko decides to live with Nagase to be around Touya, Haruka's young son who calls Maiko "mommy".

A couple of years ago I read the first two chapters and was hook. But there wasn't any more scandalations for a long time. Finally I've read the complete series.

The art is really nice. It's very clean and I love the use of spaces. I love the line quality and the expressions the characters make are really good. I haven't really read that many smut manga before so I didn't know what to expect. This is NOT hentai. The erotic scenes are tastefully done, very sensual and there aren't really many of them except when Maiko dreams about it in the begining. The most erotic part of this series was the extra oneshot at the end about an office worker and her boss.

The story has a lot of plot twist and gets a little cliche with the love triangle towards the end. Maiko does a big sacrifice at the end but it works out well for her, Touya and Nagase.
